Refraction
In this project I worked on a light installation in collaboration with Cerian. We decided to look at refraction as a starting point for our experimentation to see how different materials create a different projection and how the movement creates an interesting image. This shows the process of experimentation and the conceptualization of the installation.
We started the research and experimentation phase by looking at solid glass items that would refract the light. As we played around with different light sources and glass shapes, we got to know the material and the kind of projections it could create.
After the glass research we moved on to thick liquids and gel like substances. We tried gelatine, hair gel, soap and water beads, as well as combinations of multiple substances.
The patterns of the refractions were each unique, so Cerian and I decided to document these projections through another medium as part of our research; paint.
As we progressed with our research, we started to develop concepts and designs for the installation. It was very important to us to have some sort of interactive/moving element. These sketches show some of the preliminary ideas and designs.
For our installation, we worked on a film and animation to project through different mediums as our light source.
